The 5th of November…
The first movie about Guy Fawkes transforms the legendary historical figure into a towering
new horror movie icon.
Production is now approximately halfway through on our ambitious horror/thriller THE SECRET OF GUY FAWKES written by Dominic Philpott and Directed by Benjamin David. The ensemble cast includes Charlie Woodward (grandson of Equalizer/Wicker Man star Edward), Jeanine Nerissa Sothcott (Helloween, Nemesis), Jonathan Oliver (Return of the Jedi) and more to be announced soon. Paul Terry, who briefly appeared in Renegades is playing Guy Fawkes and has a brilliantly unsettling screen presence. Ross Yeandle is Director of Photography in his first feature film for Shogun. Shogun’s house composers Robert Geoffrey Hughes and Chris Hurst are writing the score.
When an ancient iron mask is unearthed during excavations on a controversial construction site it triggers a terrifying series of agonising deaths by spontaneous combustion. Insurance investigator Jack Denning and psychic medium Hilary Mayhew must work together to uncover the chilling truth behind an evil prophecy dating back centuries and prevent the spirit of Guy Fawkes and his loyal disciples from opening a gateway to Hell and ripping apart the fabric of time itself.
Not only is this the first horror movie about Guy Fawkes, it’s actually the first feature film about him too – however this is not a historical biopic, rather a very modern Dan Brown style thriller. At Shogun, we see Guy Fawkes, like Sherlock Holmes or Dracula, as valuable ‘free IP’ and his name has travelled far beyond British history owing to the movie V For Vendetta and the much-loved Phoenix ‘Fawkes’ in the Harry Potter universe. The mask has been specially designed and made for the production by our regular ‘monster maker’ Stuart Webb.
We anticipate releasing the first trailer on November 5th this year, Bonfire Night, with a full release in early 2026 via our regular distribution partners Trinity Content/101 Films.
Andy Taylor, Commercial Director at Trinity Content/101 Films said “We are very excited to be distributing this exciting new Shogun production, the first feature film about Guy Fawkes and a unique horror/mystery concept and envision it becoming a real cult movie”
Shogun’s Jonathan Sothcott notes “Guy Fawkes is our most ambitious undertaking yet: a heady mix of Dan Brown and Dennis Wheatley, with an iconic supernatural rendering of one of history’s great villains, a top notch script, stunning practical fire effects for the spontaneous combustion deaths and a wonderful sense of style. This movie continues our rapid trajectory of making the very best genre movies on the slimmest of budgets and becoming the market leader in our space. I think this film will make a real impact.”
Philpott is currently novelising his screenplay for publication through our Shogun Books imprint, cementing our commitment to world building for our IP and getting as many eyes on our projects as possible.
